Membership Types

Membership types define the tiers and categories available to members of your association — such as “Regular”, “Student”, “Honorary”, or “Corporate”.

Creating a Membership Type

1

Navigate to Membership Types

Go to Association Settings → Membership Types → Create Type.
2

Basic Details

  • Name — e.g., “Regular Member”, “Student”
  • Description — What this membership level includes
  • Duration — Annual, biannual, lifetime, or custom period
3

Configure Dues

  • Amount — The dues amount for this type
  • Currency — Select from supported currencies
  • Auto-Recurring Payment — Toggle to enable automatic charge on renewal date via the configured payment gateway
4

Set Renewal Reminders

Configure how often members are reminded before and after expiration:
  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Biweekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
For annual memberships, starting with monthly reminders 3 months before expiry works well. Switch to weekly as the date approaches.
5

Assign Workflow

Select an application/renewal workflow for this type. Workflows can require approval steps, document uploads, or payment before activation.

Auto-Recurring Payments

When enabled, the platform automatically charges the member’s saved payment method on the renewal date.
Auto-recurring payments require a connected payment gateway (Stripe or Paystack). Members must have a saved payment method.
  • Members receive a notification 7 days before the charge
  • Failed charges are retried up to 3 times over 7 days
  • If all retries fail, the membership status changes to Expired

Editing & Archiving

  • Edit a membership type to change its settings. Changes apply to new members and upcoming renewals.
  • Archive a type to stop new sign-ups while keeping existing members active.
Changing the dues amount does not affect members with active auto-recurring subscriptions until their next renewal cycle.
